Introduction

This is the life story of Robert Lee James from early childhood until his early married life.  It is taken from a book that covers the complete lives of Verma Nicoll James and Robert Lee James and also includes life sketches of their ancestors.  Only the early life of Robert Lee James is included here.  This excerpt was originally dictated by Robert Lee James in the 1970's then typed and prepared for the book by Rex L. James.  During the typing Robert had a couple of opportunities to read and correct the typed versions so they are pretty accurate according to his recollections.  At the time he dictated these and edited them he was very alert and interested in making the accounts as accurate as possible, acknowledging that some things had happened years before.  The photos in this version are updated from those that were included in the original book.  Newer technology with more photos accessible and more information about them allowed this update.  The choice of photos and their placement was done by Rex James.  Most of the identities on the old photos are from original notations by Verma James.
