This is a work in progress so please be patient as we add more information.

Here are all the photos I have collected that mostly are children of Joseph Henry James (and some scenes) while they were still in Mexico.  They give a flavor of what life was like then.

There must be more of these from other family members.  Please share them with me and I will add them to this web site for others to enjoy.   Thanks.  Rex James

James Gale Jr., Sarah Elizabeth James Gale and James Otto Gale about 1900.

Photo from Lyman Hamblin, originally from Bathsheba James Gurr.

Photo is identified as James Gale Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth James Gale, about 1910 but this does not appear to be same folks as those in photo above. Help?

Nelson and James families after exodus, near Tucson, Arizona, about 1912.

Entry on the back says: The Nelson Family in camp in 1912 after leaving their home in Old Mexico July 18, 1912 and Willard James and Wife Wallace Gurr and Wife Bash. From the history of Rhoda Nelson James and carefully studying the families yeilded these identities: Lady on left: Charlotte Nelson James and probably John Willard James Jr. in the buggy. Three men in center: John Willard James, James Mark Nelson, Wallace Marsh Gurr. Two children near men: Reuben Gurr in cart, Beatrice Nelson looking at dog.  correction 3/2006:  unknown 4-5 year old boy on cart, who is it?  Margaret Gurr looking at dog.  Five ladies, l to r: Bathsheba James Gurr, Nellie Mariah James Nelson, is this Sarah Nelson James wife of George Heber James who had died 2 years previous - no children?, Rhonda May Nelson James wife of Joseph Henry James Jr (not in photo) and her mother Mary Louisa Elder. The baby in the dynamite box next to Rhoda would be either Nell's daughter Maria or Bathsheba's son Wallace  Beatrice James since Marvia Nelson and Wallace Gurr would have been 4-5 months old.  Since Beatrice is walking and she was born 14 Jan 1912, the men are wearing long sleeve shirts and none of the ladies appear pregnant it is assumed this is after Aug 1912 ( Wallace born) and probably Nov 1912 to February 1913.

Near Colonia Juarez about 1900.

entry on back says: Road construction over the mountain to Hop Valley. I could not identify any of the men.

Photo from Lyman Hamblin, originally from Bathsheba James Gurr.

entry on back says Saw Mill, can anyone recognize those in the photo?

School kids at Pacheco, about 1896.

Entry on back says: School house at Pacheco. Bash left strip dress, possible Mother on right? The photo came from Lyman Hamblin and was with the Bathsheba Gurr photos. If the lower left (striped dress) girl is Bathsheba James Gurr she looks to be about 8 which would date the photo as 1896.

Orin James, guess is about 1925

Entry on back says William James but comparing other photos this is probably Orin in Gallup about 1925.
